About us

GECKO Culinary Adventures, established over nine years ago and now situated in the heart of the Berea in Durban, central for all and easy to find. We are three doors from Durban Girls College in Musgrave Road See Map.

Megan Harker who left a successful career in corporate sales and marketing devotes her attention to her lifelong passion of cooking and natural flair for entertaining, taking GECKO Culinary Adventures to new heights. With years of experience in the food industry and a sound culinary knowledge, she brings a new, fresh approach to GECKO's cooking classes and team building events.

Megan's straight forward approach to cooking, delivered with enthusiasm and commitment to making simple and delicious food, ensures participants leave her classes and parties excited about the delicious food they've prepared and eager to re-create dishes for friends and family.

Every class is a fun culinary experience! GECKO specialises in fantastic team building events as well as a variety of classes from everyday quick and easy meals to making sushi, speciality master classes and culinary journey's to interesting places such as Italy, France, Portugal, Vietnam, Morocco and the Caribbean, to name but a few.

The venue is is ideal for large and small groups and corporate functions such as:

corporate team building events;
client entertaining and relationship building;
staff incentives;
wine tastings;
fun interactive cooking events for groups from 12 to 50 people;
special events & functions;
private get togethers – book clubs, wine clubs, birthday parties, kitchen teas, girls or guys night out, or just gather a group of friends for dinner with a difference!

Participants are never taken out of their comfort zone or feel threatened in any way, as in many other team building activities. Our epicurean adventures are designed for those who have a passion for cooking but aren't professional chefs. We show you how every day meals and recreational cooking can be easy, delicious and presented in a gourmet style.

Participants learn to prepare a feast, and present their culinary creations expertly and in as little time as possible. At the end of the evening, everyone enjoys the meal they prepared together on the veranda with a spectacular view overlooking Durban.

We don't offer culinary degrees or certification program but we do share the same passions, so come and meet like minded people and learn new skills in a relaxed, fun and interesting way! Classes take the form of demonstrations and hands-on interactive participation.

What do you need to bring?

GECKO provides everything you need from Whirpool appliances, WEBER braais, aprons, knives, chopping boards, sushi rolling mats, you name it! All you need is your enthusiasm to learn and participate and refreshments!
