Our Courses

  • All classes are held at GECKO Culinary Adventures cooking school in Musgrave Road, Durban.
  • At all lessons we provide the ingredients, the recipes, all kitchen equipment and aprons for your use at the school.
  • You will feast on the food we prepare and benefit from lots of free recipes, ideas, hints and tips that chefs seldom share.
  • Our courses are interactive and fun, set in a beautiful venue with a fantastic view over the Durban skyline and Indian ocean.
  • A 50% deposit will secure your place on the course 7 days before commencement. The full amount is due before the first night of the course.
  • Class numbers are limited so book early to avoid dissapointment!

Creative Cooking Skills

A hands on interactive courses designed for those with limited time to spend hours in the kitchen. Each lesson features a specialty bread, starter, main and dessert. Learn the tricks to achieve perfect results in these 6 lesson mini courses.

Part I - Mini Chefs Course (6 lessons)

This course covers the basic fundamentals of cooking and shows you how to be creative with daily meals as well as when catering for guests. Learn how to make:

  • Breads such as focaccia, pizza, rolls, loaves, stuffed breads, rolls, pita, naan.
  • Pastries - how to use Phyllo, Puff pastry; make springrolls, parcels, pies.
  • Sauces - complex sauces, basic sauces and salad dressings.
  • Beef – the perfect steak - how to prepare and present fillet steak to perfection.
  • Chicken - versatile dishes for everyday cooking or entertaining.
  • Pork - perfectly lean meat which is easy, economical and versatile.
  • Pasta – easy and economical.
  • Fish - the perfection of fresh fish.

 

Part II - Mini Gourmet Course (6 lessons)

Using basic skills and ingredients, master risotto, pate's, galette's, mousses, stacks, flambè's, pasta's, sublime salads, seafood, sauces, vegetables, bread making, pastry, flans, tarts, pull apart loaves, decadent desserts and party catering ... time is of the essence! 

Gourmet WEBER Braai Classes

Our hands-on cooking lessons will set the men apart from the boys! Master the art of gourmet braaiing and use your WEBER correctly and efficiently. Learn how to braai meat perfectly, prepare a whole fillet to perfection, spatchcock a chicken, delectable salads, marinades, make pizza, paella, puddings; make your own bread and much, much more on your WEBER.

Oceans On Fire!

Celebrate summer in South Africa with wonderful new ways to prepare the ocean’s finest fare over open flames on the world famous WEBER!  Whole fish in newspaper, skewered prawns, calamari ... a fabulous seafood feast!

Survival Cooking Classes (4 lessons)

Just moved out of home? Taking a GAP Year? Student going into digs?

School Leavers, Varsity Students, High School Students … have fun whilst learning the basics of cooking! Away from home for the first time... healthy homemade burgers and buns, easy pizza, quick pasta, versatile chicken dishes, quiche, sumptious salads and quick desserts. Quick, easy, healthy and easy on the budget!

This course is presented in 2 parts, consisting of 4 lessons each.

Domestic Cooking Course (4 lessons)

The course is conducted in English, so a basic understanding of reading the English language is required. However, because of cultural food differences, we taste, smell and talk about the food we prepare in an emotive manner so as to understand why flavours and textures go together. Classes will take the form of participation and demonstration which include breakfast, lunch and supper dishes.
Basic skills and ingredients for a variety of easy meals with flare presented in two parts consisting of 4 lessons each.

We prepare a variety of different dishes which are easy ot prepare, such as:

  • Deliciously Simple Pasta Dishes.
  • Basic Scones both sweet and savoury.
  • Health Muffins.
  • Stylish Soups.
  • Simple Sauces.
  • Simple Salads with a difference for every day and dinner parties.
  • Easy Meals.
  • Decadent Desserts...

Duration – These are 4 week courses and only requires your domestic to attend once a week for 3 hours. Courses start at 09h00 sharp and end at 12H00.
